Court Orders Hisbah Board to Arrange Marriage of Kano TikTok Creators Within 60 Days

A Kano Magistrate Court has ordered TikTok stars Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda to marry within 60 days.

The ruling followed viral videos deemed indecent by the state’s film censorship board.

A Magistrate Court in Kano has ordered the state Hisbah Board to arrange the marriage of two popular TikTok personalities, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, within 60 days.

The directive came after both creators appeared in viral videos that the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board described as “indecent” and contrary to the moral and religious standards of the state.

Delivering the ruling on Monday, October 20, 2025, Magistrate Halima Wali warned that failure to carry out the marriage within the given timeframe would be treated as contempt of court. The court also instructed the Chairman of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board to supervise the implementation of the order.

The board had accused the duo of violating state laws that prohibit the production and distribution of obscene or sexually suggestive material. The two were recently arraigned for allegedly posting romantic videos on social media.

According to the board, the viral clips showing the pair in affectionate poses were inconsistent with Kano’s moral and cultural values.

Mai Wushirya was earlier remanded in a correctional facility after footage of him shirtless and engaging in acts described by authorities as “immoral and demeaning” circulated online. His collaborator, Yar Guda, was also questioned by the board’s enforcement team before the case was taken to court.
