Suspect Confesses to Role in Murder of Dr. Chike Akunyili in Anambra
A suspect identified as Small has confessed to joining the gang that killed Dr. Chike Akunyili in Anambra.
He revealed the attack was led by another Ebonyi native known as Jukwese.
A young man identified as Small, from Ebonyi State, has reportedly confessed to being a member of the criminal gang behind the killing of Dr. Chike Akunyili, husband of the late former NAFDAC Director-General and Minister of Information, Prof. Dora Akunyili.

The suspect, who was arrested by operatives of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) Agunechemba, made startling confessions during interrogation. He revealed that the attack was coordinated by another man from Ebonyi known as Jukwese. According to him, the gang first ambushed and killed Dr. Akunyili’s police escorts before shooting the medical doctor himself.
Security operatives said the gang had long been on their radar, as it had been linked to multiple killings and violent crimes across Anambra State. Their operations reportedly terrorized communities, creating fear and instability for months.
However, a recent security crackdown has begun to weaken their network. The combined efforts of Operation Udo Gachi and local vigilante groups have led to several arrests and the recovery of weapons used in previous attacks.
Authorities say the confession from Small provides key insights into the gang’s structure and operations. Further investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members still at large.
