Gov Sule Condemns Political Sycophancy, Says Buhari’s Critics Were Once His Biggest Supporters
Governor Abdullahi Sule criticizes rising political hypocrisy as praise quickly turns to attacks.
He says insincerity toward former leaders weakens trust and damages Nigeria’s governance culture.
Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has expressed frustration over what he described as the deep-rooted culture of political hypocrisy in Nigeria, noting that many individuals who once showered praise on former President Muhammadu Buhari now openly attack his legacy.

Governor Sule made the remark in Abuja during the 2nd Raymond Dokpesi Diamond Lecture hosted by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).
He recounted his own observations while Buhari was in office, saying some politicians never hesitated to proclaim him as the greatest leader Nigeria ever had only to change their narrative immediately after he left office.
According to Sule, holding public office has exposed him to how quickly such praise can flip.
He explained that he had personally watched people tell Buhari, “No one has ever governed this country better than you,” but those same individuals later turned around to accuse the former president of poor performance as soon as he exited power.
“That is the true face of sycophancy,” he said, warning that such behavior undermines sincerity in leadership and governance.
