He believes romance can be shown differently while staying true to personal values on set.
Nollywood actor and filmmaker Daniel Etim-Effiong has revealed that he seeks God’s guidance before filming any kissing or romantic scenes on set.
Speaking in a recent interview with Channels Television, the actor said his Christian faith plays a major role in the choices he makes in his acting career. He explained that while kissing scenes are common in Nollywood largely due to audience demand he remains intentional about his approach to such roles.
Etim-Effiong stated that producers often include kissing scenes because they believe viewers connect more strongly with films that show romance and intimacy. However, he also questioned why affection is mostly portrayed through kissing alone, suggesting that there are other effective ways to express love in storytelling.
“The fact that I play a lot of romantic roles means that I get kissing scenes sometimes,” he said. “I get all my inspiration from God. I go on my knees and pray before I go to set and kiss. My family is my garden, then my work.”
He added that acting feels like a calling for him, which is why he left a well-paying engineering career to pursue storytelling a form of worship and an opportunity to inspire others through film.
