Bishop David Abioye, has taken a strong stance against individuals who publicly reject claims of widespread violence targeted at Christians in the country.

His comments follow a statement by United States Senator Ted Cruz, who recently alleged that Christians in Nigeria are facing a coordinated campaign of killings, which he suggested is not being adequately challenged by authorities. The Federal Government has dismissed that allegation, arguing that both Muslims and Christians have been victims of insecurity and insurgent attacks across the nation. Some Christian leaders have also maintained that the situation should not be described as genocide.

Delivering a message during a church service, Bishop Abioye condemned those disputing that Christians are being systematically attacked. He said evidence of mass burials and repeated assaults on Christian communities should not be ignored.

According to him, denying the reality of targeted killings is heartless and self-serving. He added that while insecurity affects various regions and groups, attacks on Christians are clearly identifiable and spreading beyond northern parts of the country.

Abioye accused some leaders of downplaying the situation to protect political or personal interests, saying such actions amount to abandoning their faith and those who rely on them to speak the truth.
