Elon Musk Slams Trump-Backed Spending Bill, Warns U.S. Headed Toward ‘Debt Slavery’
Elon Musk has slammed a Trump-backed spending bill, warning that unchecked government borrowing is dragging the U.S. toward financial collapse and long-term economic devastation.
With the national debt topping $36 trillion, Musk says interest payments alone threaten to wipe out funding for essential services like defense, healthcare, and social security.

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has unleashed a scathing attack on the recently passed Trump-supported “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” calling it a reckless move that could drive the United States toward economic collapse. In a series of posts on his social media platform, X, Musk warned that the federal government’s excessive spending is pushing the country into what he described as “debt slavery.”
“This immense level of overspending will drive America into debt slavery!” Musk wrote in a post on Wednesday morning, expressing deep concern over the nation’s financial trajectory.
His comments come as the U.S. national debt surpasses $36 trillion, a staggering figure that has fueled widespread debate over the sustainability of the country’s fiscal policies. Musk specifically pointed out that interest payments on the debt are now consuming nearly 25 percent of all federal revenue a financial strain that he believes could soon leave the government unable to fund essential services.
“If the massive deficit spending continues, there will only be money for interest payments and nothing else! No social security, no medical, no defense … nothing,” Musk cautioned in another post.
The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which recently passed in the House of Representatives with support from former President Donald Trump and many congressional Republicans, has drawn fierce criticism from fiscal conservatives who argue that it is filled with unnecessary expenditures and wasteful earmarks. Musk echoed those sentiments, calling the legislation a “disgusting abomination.”
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” he vented. “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”
Despite the mounting criticism, the White House has doubled down on its support for the bill. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt responded to Musk’s comments during a briefing on Tuesday, saying the president remains fully committed to the legislation.
“The president already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill. It doesn’t change the president’s opinion. This is one big, beautiful bill, and he’s stickin’ to it,” Leavitt said.
However, Musk is not backing down. He has continued to use his platform to voice concern about what he sees as reckless government behavior, urging lawmakers to take immediate action to prevent long-term damage.
“Mammoth spending bills are bankrupting America! ENOUGH,” Musk wrote in another post, adding to the growing pressure on Washington from business leaders and conservative activists.
In response to Musk’s high-profile condemnation and the dissatisfaction among fiscally conservative constituents, several Republican lawmakers are reportedly reevaluating their stance on the bill. Some are now pushing for the cancellation of certain provisions and a rollback of planned expenditures.
Political analysts suggest Musk’s intervention could mark a turning point in the national conversation around government spending. Known for his influence in tech, finance, and culture, Musk’s sharp criticism has amplified the voices of those warning about the long-term dangers of unchecked deficit spending.
As debate over the bill continues, the broader question looms: can the U.S. rein in its spending before the financial burden becomes unmanageable, or is the nation already too far down the road Musk describes as “debt slavery”?
