Senate Confirms Bernard Doro as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs
The Senate has confirmed Bernard Doro as Nigeria’s new Minister of Humanitarian Affairs.
He pledged to promote fairness and transparency while strengthening humanitarian efforts across the country.
The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Bernard Doro as a minister following his screening during Thursday’s plenary session. President Bola Tinubu had forwarded his name to the upper chamber last week in line with Section 14(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

During the screening, Doro, who becomes the third ministerial nominee from Plateau State, outlined his plan to build an inclusive and transparent humanitarian system across Nigeria. He pledged to ensure that humanitarian efforts are guided by fairness, neutrality, and independence.
After questioning him, senators expressed satisfaction with his credentials and capacity to serve. His confirmation fills the vacant position of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, previously held by the current National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda.
Following Doro’s confirmation, Senate President Godswill Akpabio adjourned the plenary to allow lawmakers to attend the inauguration of the newly appointed Service Chiefs at the State House in Abuja. The Senate is expected to reconvene on Tuesday next week.
