Falz Speaks Out: “Fornication Isn’t a Sin in My Belief System”

Nigerian rapper Falz has reignited public debate by standing by his claim that fornication isn’t sinful, declaring he now follows a personal “religion of love” over traditional faiths.

In an Arise TV interview, Falz said he no longer identifies as a Christian, emphasizing empathy, respect, and personal choice over religious doctrines.

Nigerian rapper and actor Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has stirred fresh debate online after standing by his controversial claim that fornication is not a sin. According to the entertainer, his belief is rooted in what he calls the “religion of love,” not in the teachings of Christianity or Islam.

The conversation began when Falz tweeted that “fornication isn’t a sin,” igniting backlash from many Nigerians who cited religious texts to counter his view. Commentators from both Christian and Muslim communities condemned his statement, accusing him of encouraging moral decline.

However, in a recent interview with Arise TV, the music star offered further insight into his perspective. Falz clarified that his comment wasn’t intended to reflect Christian or Islamic doctrine but was based on his personal spiritual outlook.

“I think people read the tweet and assumed I was speaking from a religious standpoint specifically Christianity,” he explained. “But I wasn’t. I’m coming from a place I call the religion of love.”

He elaborated on this self-defined belief system, stating that it centers on empathy, kindness, and mutual respect without imposing the restrictions traditionally associated with organized religions. According to Falz, consensual sex between unmarried adults doesn’t violate any moral code within the “religion of love.”

“According to that belief system, I don’t view fornication as a wrongdoing. These are two adults, not married, who willingly choose to be intimate. Who exactly is being harmed in that situation?” he asked.

The most striking part of the interview was when Falz candidly revealed that he no longer considers himself a Christian.

“I don’t practice Christianity anymore. I now follow the religion of love,” he said.

Falz’s comments have continued to spark conversations online, with supporters applauding his openness and critics questioning the implications of his views. Regardless of public opinion, the entertainer appears steadfast in living his truth guided by a belief system he created for himself.
