JAMB has extended the deadline for 2025 university admissions to November 17.
The Board said the change follows appeals from vice-chancellors and recent disruptions affecting admission processes.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced an extension of the deadline for completing the 2025 admission process into public universities across Nigeria.
This was contained in a statement issued by JAMB’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin. The decision comes after the Board reviewed requests and prevailing circumstances affecting several institutions.
Earlier, at the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on July 18 under the chairmanship of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Board had set October 31, 2025, as the deadline for all public universities to conclude admissions. The goal was to allow private universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprise institutions to finalize their processes before the overall closing date.
However, JAMB explained that some “emergent and compelling circumstances” made it necessary to adjust the schedule. The new deadline for public universities is now Monday, November 17, 2025.
According to the statement, the extension followed an appeal from the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU), which cited disruptions caused by several factors, including a court order that temporarily halted the 2025/2026 admission list. The order, JAMB noted, was only lifted on October 28, leaving universities with limited time to complete their internal admission procedures.
The Board also highlighted that the National Universities Commission (NUC), in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, had recently approved 229 new programmes across 37 universities on October 29. Admission into these newly accredited programmes, JAMB said, is still being processed.
JAMB commended universities for their diligence and commitment to meeting the initial timeline and reiterated its resolve to maintain a transparent, credible, and seamless admission process that aligns with national education objectives and institutional autonomy.
