According to the family, Cheney died from complications related to pneumonia and heart disease.

Cheney served as the 46th Vice President of the United States under President George W. Bush between 2001 and 2009. He played a central role in shaping American foreign and defense policies during a period defined by the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and the subsequent War on Terror.

Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, on January 30, 1941, Cheney grew up in Wyoming. He studied at Yale University before earning a degree in political science from the University of Wyoming.

A lifelong Republican, Cheney entered Congress in 1978, representing Wyoming for a decade. He later served as U.S. Secretary of Defense under President George H.W. Bush from 1989 to 1993, overseeing the Gulf War that drove Iraqi forces out of Kuwait.

As Vice President, Cheney was known for his strong influence within the Bush administration and his role in promoting the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, based on claims that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction, claims that were later proven false.

Cheney is remembered as one of the most powerful and controversial figures in modern U.S. politics, whose decisions helped define America’s post-9/11 era.
