Tension in Osun PDP as Wike’s Comment Raises Concern Over Adeleke’s 2026 Re-election Bid
Tension has erupted within Osun PDP after Nyesom Wike’s remarks about internal party leadership.
Members fear his comments could threaten Governor Adeleke’s re-election bid ahead of the 2026 polls.
Anxiety has reportedly gripped members of the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, about the party’s internal leadership crisis.

Wike’s comments, made during a live television interview on Monday, have raised concerns about Governor Ademola Adeleke’s chances of securing the party’s official ticket for the 2026 governorship election.
When asked whether the PDP would field candidates in the upcoming governorship elections in Osun and Ekiti States, Wike said he had previously warned Adeleke about political risks that could affect his chances.
“Ask the governor of Osun, Adeleke,” Wike said. “He came to see me, and I told him he was in danger. I don’t like people who are not truthful. I called him and asked if he saw the danger he was walking into. But there’s this spirit in governors that makes them believe they can do everything on their own.”
The statement has caused unease among PDP members in Osun, with some party leaders expressing fear that the ongoing national leadership dispute could affect the governor’s re-election plans.
A party leader, Adewale Adegbite, said the minister’s words have unsettled the party’s structure ahead of 2026. “Are we not done for as a party for the 2026 governorship election? Our party is united and ready, but this latest comment could affect our preparation,” he said.
Another senior PDP member, who preferred not to be named, revealed that Governor Adeleke has been engaging different factions within the party, including discussions with Wike and Governor Seyi Makinde, in efforts to resolve the crisis.
However, the Osun PDP has downplayed fears of division. The party’s Director of Media, Oladele Olabamji, dismissed reports of panic within the state chapter, insisting that Governor Adeleke’s nomination process remains on course.
“We don’t foresee any danger,” Olabamji said. “As far as we are concerned, Governor Adeleke has started his nomination process, and it will be completed without any issue.”
