Ted Cruz Commends Trump, Seeks Sanctions on Nigerian Officials Over Killings of Christians

U.S. Senator Ted Cruz has renewed his call for sanctions against Nigerian officials accused of persecuting Christians.

He praised President Donald Trump’s earlier action and vowed to name those allegedly responsible soon.

United States Senator Ted Cruz has intensified his campaign against what he described as the ongoing persecution of Christians in Nigeria, calling for the imposition of sanctions on Nigerian officials allegedly responsible for the violence.

In a video shared on his social media platforms, Cruz addressed what he termed a “Christian genocide” in Nigeria, saying he has been pushing legislation to designate the country as a Country of Particular Concern under U.S. law. This designation, if implemented, could lead to diplomatic restrictions and targeted sanctions on individuals or agencies linked to religious persecution.

The Texas lawmaker commended President Donald Trump for his earlier decision to include Nigeria on the CPC list during his administration. He noted that the Trump administration’s action represented a major step toward drawing global attention to what many human rights groups have described as systematic attacks against Christian communities, especially in Nigeria’s northern and Middle Belt regions.

“Thank you to President Trump for his leadership in imposing the designation, and more broadly, for fighting to stop the murder of Christians in Nigeria,” Cruz wrote in the post accompanying the video.

Cruz maintained that the next phase of his effort is to identify and hold accountable those within the Nigerian government who, according to him, have failed to prevent or have been complicit in the attacks. “Now we should take the next step and hold Nigerian officials accountable. I intend to be very explicit about who they are in the coming days and weeks,” he stated.
