Aston Villa show interest in Sancho as Chelsea Abandons Transfer

Jadon Sancho’s transfer saga takes a new twist as Aston Villa eye a swoop following Chelsea’s withdrawal over wage concerns.

With Newcastle targeting James Trafford and Liverpool circling Anthony Gordon, the summer window promises major Premier League shakeups.

Aston Villa have reportedly joined the race to sign England winger Jadon Sancho following the collapse of his permanent move to Chelsea. The 25-year-old, who spent the latter half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Stamford Bridge, is now set to return to Manchester United after talks over a full transfer fell apart.

Despite playing a pivotal role in Chelsea’s UEFA Conference League triumph, the Blues were unable to meet Sancho’s £350,000-per-week wage demands, a figure deemed unsustainable under the club’s revised wage structure. Although they paid a £5 million delayed loan fee, reports confirm it was not a penalty for failing to activate a purchase clause but simply the agreed-upon fee due.

Sancho’s future is now back in the spotlight, with Unai Emery’s Aston Villa emerging as potential suitors. Villa, who have qualified for European competition next season, are believed to be exploring options to strengthen their attacking line, and Sancho’s availability has piqued their interest.

Elsewhere, Newcastle United are making moves of their own, with Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford reportedly becoming their top target for the summer. The Magpies are looking to bolster their squad ahead of the new season and see Trafford as a long-term option between the sticks.

In Merseyside, Liverpool are said to be considering a bid for Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, adding to an already bustling transfer window narrative. Gordon, who has impressed since joining Newcastle from Everton, is attracting attention from several top clubs, but Liverpool’s interest could ignite a bidding war if they formalize their pursuit.

With the summer transfer window heating up, big Premier League names are already jostling for major signings, and Sancho’s next destination remains one of the biggest question marks.
