The Adamawa State Government has approved the sum of N2.7 billion to sponsor 100 indigenes of the state for master’s degree programmes in Turkey. The initiative aims to build the state’s human capital and develop a new generation of skilled professionals across key sectors.

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri

The approval was confirmed during the 22nd State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House in Yola, presided over by the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, James Iliya, said the scholarship is one of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s commitments to enhancing educational opportunities for young people in Adamawa. He explained that the overseas sponsorship will cover tuition, accommodation, and other academic costs for the beneficiaries.

According to Iliya, the program will focus on four major areas: Engineering, Architecture, Information and Communication Technology (with emphasis on Artificial Intelligence), and Medical Sciences. These fields, he said, were chosen to align with the state’s developmental needs and to prepare graduates to contribute effectively to society upon their return.

In the same meeting, the council approved an upward review of the electrification project in So’o and Mapeo communities of Jada Local Government Area, with an additional N2.4 million allocated to complete the work. It also approved N1.6 million for a solar technology training program at the State Polytechnic, Yola, aimed at promoting renewable energy education.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Chief Felix Tangwami, gave an update on the recent cholera outbreak in Mubi North and South Local Government Areas. He reported that 236 cases had been recorded so far, resulting in 13 deaths. Tangwami urged residents to maintain strict hygiene and sanitation to help curb the spread of the disease.

Also, Governor Fintiri approved the appointment of Chief Aminu Kardu Tsigiya as the new Provost of the Adamawa State College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Ganye. The appointment followed a recommendation from the institution’s Governing Council after Tsigiya topped the selection process.

In addition, Yusuf Haman’Adama was appointed Registrar, while Mustapha Baba Nasir was named College Librarian. A statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, noted that all appointments take immediate effect.

Governor Fintiri congratulated the new appointees and urged them to uphold discipline, innovation, and teamwork in managing the institution. He called on the new Provost and his team to focus on promoting academic excellence, research, and practical training that will position the college as a leading centre for agricultural and technological advancement in Adamawa State.
