Anambra Declares Friday Work-Free Ahead of Governorship Election

The Anambra State government has declared Friday, November 7, a work-free day for civil servants.

Officials said the move will enable workers to travel and vote in Saturday’s governorship election.

The Anambra State government has declared Friday, November 7, 2025, a work-free day for all civil servants in preparation for the state’s governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 8.

The announcement was contained in a statement released on Thursday, November 6, by the Head of Service, Mrs. Theodora Igwegbe. According to her, the directive was approved by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to allow public workers sufficient time to travel to their various voting locations and take part in the electoral process.

Mrs. Igwegbe noted that the decision reflects the government’s commitment to promoting citizens’ participation in governance and strengthening democracy through active involvement in elections. She described voting as a civic duty that every eligible citizen should uphold, emphasizing that the participation of the state’s workforce is crucial to the success of the democratic process.

“The purpose of this work-free day is to enable civil servants to fully participate in the upcoming governorship election,” she explained, urging workers to see the exercise as both a responsibility and a contribution to the development of Anambra State.

She further directed all political appointees, permanent secretaries, and heads of ministries, departments, and agencies to inform their subordinates and ensure full compliance with the directive.

The statement encouraged civil servants to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly during the election period while exercising their right to vote for candidates of their choice.

With this declaration, government offices across the state will remain closed on Friday, allowing workers to prepare and travel ahead of Saturday’s crucial poll.
