Benue Police Arrest Two for Possession of Human Parts, 181 Others Held for Various Crimes
The Benue State Police Command has arrested two suspects found with human body parts in Okpokwu.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing after they were caught with a human head, lap, and heart.
The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two individuals for allegedly being in possession of human body parts in the state.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Emenari Ifeanyi, made this known on Thursday, November 6, 2025, during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Makurdi.
According to the police chief, the suspects were apprehended on October 22 by operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard in Okpokwu Local Government Area. They were found with a human head, lap, and heart before being handed over to the police for further investigation.
“The suspects were arrested for being in possession of human parts and have since been charged to court,” Mr. Ifeanyi said.
He further disclosed that between mid-September and the end of October, the command arrested 181 suspects linked to crimes such as armed robbery, cultism, banditry, kidnapping, culpable homicide, and unlawful possession of firearms.
During the period under review, police records showed 14 homicide cases, 12 armed robberies, four kidnappings, 16 incidents of banditry and terrorism, and three cases related to cult activities.
Mr. Ifeanyi stated that 15 firearms, 67 rounds of ammunition and cartridges, and three stolen vehicles were recovered, while 23 kidnapped victims were successfully rescued.
He added that ongoing clearance operations in the Sankera axis covering Katsina-Ala, Ukum, and Logo Local Government Areas led to the arrest of over 70 suspects linked to banditry. The operations, according to him, have disrupted criminal networks, destroyed camps, and enabled displaced residents to return to their communities and farms.
In another coordinated raid on October 25 in Otukpo and Ohimini LGAs, 39 suspected armed robbers believed to be behind attacks on security operatives were also apprehended.
The Commissioner announced that 445 officers and men of the command had been promoted recently, while commending other security agencies, including Operation Whirl Stroke and the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, for their cooperation in restoring peace across the state.
