Anambra Governorship Election: 74-Year-Old Becomes First Voter in Awka
A 74-year-old man made history as the first voter at Awka 2 Ward 6 this morning.
He arrived before 9 a.m., inspiring others with his dedication to civic duty.
A 74-year-old man became the first person to cast his vote at Polling Unit 003, Awka 2 Ward 6, in Awka South Local Government Area during Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State.

The elderly voter arrived early and cast his ballot at exactly 8:56 a.m., officially marking the beginning of voting activities in the area. Residents and electoral officials at the polling unit commended his punctuality and commitment, describing it as a show of civic responsibility and dedication to democratic participation.


Saturday’s election features 16 candidates from various political parties vying for the governorship seat, including the incumbent, Professor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), who is seeking re-election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier assured that all arrangements were in place to ensure a smooth and credible process across the state’s 21 local government areas.
