The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has called on indigenes living abroad to return home for the Christmas celebrations, assuring them of a peaceful and secure environment.

Speaking after the conclusion of what he described as one of the most peaceful governorship elections in the state’s history, Orutugu said the success of the poll reflected the effectiveness of the command’s security strategies. He noted that since assuming office nine months ago, the police have implemented deliberate and proactive measures that have greatly improved safety across Anambra.

“Anambra is a safe place. Prepare and come home for Christmas,” the Commissioner said.

He explained that his leadership approach focuses on community-driven and intelligence-based policing. According to him, the command prioritizes crime prevention, rapid response, and public trust, with an emphasis on “policing without guns”, engaging citizens through counseling and appeals to conscience rather than force.

Orutugu said his first step as Commissioner was to strengthen collaboration with traditional rulers, youth groups, and religious leaders to encourage early intelligence sharing and foster confidence in the police. This, he added, has helped prevent and disrupt criminal activities across local government areas.

He also highlighted the success of his “flashpoint deployment” strategy, which ensures strong security presence in border and high-risk communities.

On accountability, Orutugu reaffirmed his zero tolerance for misconduct, extortion, and abuse of power, stressing that professionalism and respect for human rights remain central to police operations in the state.

He assured that residents and returnees will see visible patrols and rapid response units throughout the festive season. “Through deliberate policing and grassroots engagement, we have maintained peace. Anambra is ready for Christmas. Come home,” he said.
