The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority has called on Nigerians to avoid panic buying of fuel, assuring the public that the country has enough petroleum products to meet current demand.

In a statement issued on November 12 by the Director of Public Affairs, George Ene-Ita, and posted on the agency’s X page, the NMDPRA said there is “adequate supply of petroleum products in the country within the acceptable national sufficiency threshold during this peak demand period.”

The authority explained that there is a strong domestic supply of products such as petrol, diesel and cooking gas. It said these supplies come from both local refineries and imports, ensuring that depots and filling stations are replenished without delay.

The agency warned against hoarding and unnecessary price increases, noting that current supply levels do not support such actions. It also clarified that “the implementation of the 15% ad-valorem import duty on imported Premium Motor Spirit and Diesel is no longer in view,” which is expected to ease pressure on pump prices.

Reassuring Nigerians, the NMDPRA said it will continue to monitor the market to prevent any disruption in distribution, especially as demand rises.

The statement also praised stakeholders for their cooperation and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to maintaining energy security across the country.

In a related update, Nigeria’s crude oil output rose slightly to 1.401 million barrels per day in October 2025, according to new data from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. The figure is an improvement from the 1.39 million barrels per day recorded in September but still below the nation’s assigned OPEC quota of about 1.5 million barrels per day.
