Daniel Regha Challenges Olamide’s Claim That Wizkid Is the Greatest Afrobeats Artist After Fela
Daniel Regha has challenged Olamide’s remark ranking Wizkid after Fela, calling the claim historically incomplete.
He argued that earlier pioneers shaped Afrobeats more deeply and deserve greater recognition in the conversation.
Social commentator Daniel Regha has pushed back against Olamide’s recent claim that Wizkid is the greatest Afrobeats artist after Fela Kuti, arguing that the statement overlooks many influential musicians who shaped the genre long before the current generation.

Regha said Wizkid has achieved a lot and his longevity is undeniable, but insisted that “when it comes to greatest of all time, he’s not that high.” He stressed that several artists from the 80s and 90s introduced sounds that were “a cultural reset,” even if they were not mainstream stars.
In further criticism, Regha said Afrobeats has “lost its purpose,” and argued that if greatness is measured by influence, originality, live performance, or the depth of an artist’s hits, “Wizkid will barely make any top list.”
He added that being considered the greatest should go far beyond charts, awards, and streaming numbers, noting that a true Afrobeats icon should have a discography that reflects the core of the genre, sets a standard, and helps push the industry forward.
