Troops of the 3 Division Garrison and the Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace have arrested a suspected gunrunner during a targeted security operation in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. The operation, carried out on 14 November 2025, was part of ongoing efforts to stop the spread of illegal weapons and strengthen security across the region.

Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, the Media Information Officer for Operation Enduring Peace, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Saturday. He explained that the suspect, identified as Ishaya Musa, was intercepted at the Jebbu Bassa Bypass checkpoint following credible intelligence received by troops working under the newly launched Operation Peace Shield.
According to the statement, a detailed search of the suspect and his belongings led to the discovery of several illegal weapons. The recovered items included six fabricated single barrel rifles, two fabricated revolver rifles, one Dane gun, an expended cartridge and a number of other items linked to unlawful arms movement.
Zhakom stated that both the suspect and the recovered weapons are currently in custody as investigations and further actions continue. He noted that the arrest reflects the strong determination of Operation Enduring Peace to protect citizens, disrupt illegal arms networks and promote safety throughout the Joint Operations Area.
He added that security forces remain focused on limiting the movement of weapons, especially as communities prepare for the harvest period and the approaching festive season when criminal activities often increase.
The statement encouraged residents to stay alert and promptly share useful information with security agencies. Zhakom stressed that public cooperation remains vital in identifying threats early and supporting ongoing military operations aimed at maintaining peace and stability in Plateau State.
