Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has sent a strongly worded message to former President Olusegun Obasanjo after the ex-leader attended his 65th birthday celebration. The message, delivered as an SMS, criticized the former president and included comments suggesting he belongs in a zoo.
The exchange was made public by Obasanjo’s media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, who released the details in a statement issued in Abeokuta. According to Akinyemi, Fayose’s message was described as a “thank you” note but contained several personal attacks.
In the SMS, Fayose expressed appreciation for Obasanjo’s presence at his birthday event but accused him of making what he described as irresponsible remarks during the celebration. He claimed that Obasanjo’s comments were uncalled for and said he chose not to respond at the event so people could see the difference between what he described as a calm person and someone acting without restraint. Fayose went on to claim that the former president had lost his sense of judgement and said he would address the matter in detail later. He also asked Obasanjo to return some money which he claimed to have given him in the past.
Obasanjo responded briefly, saying Fayose’s message revealed the kind of person he is and noted that he has remained the same over the years. The former president added that the money Fayose referred to had already been returned through the individual who originally delivered it, and he emphasized that the bag in which it came had never been opened.
The tense exchange between the two political figures has generated wide discussion, with many Nigerians expressing surprise at the tone of Fayose’s message and the public nature of the disagreement.
