Kaduna Police Arrest 27 Suspects After Naval Officer’s Death in Kawo

The killing of a naval officer in Kaduna has triggered a major security crackdown in the Kawo area.

Authorities arrested 27 suspects and recovered weapons and illegal drugs during the operation.

Security operatives in Kaduna State have arrested 27 individuals suspected of criminal activity following the tragic killing of a naval officer in the Kawo area of the Kaduna metropolis.

The incident occurred over the weekend when Lieutenant Commander M. Buba, a naval officer undergoing training at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji, was fatally stabbed by a suspected phone thief. According to the police, the attack took place around 4:50 a.m. while the officer was changing a flat tire on his vehicle.

In response to the incident, the Kaduna State Police Command launched a coordinated operation aimed at flushing out criminal elements operating in the area. The operation was carried out in partnership with the military, Department of State Services (DSS), Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KADVIS), and local vigilantes.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, explained that the crackdown began on the night of June 8, 2025, at approximately 8:30 p.m. The operation covered various parts of Kawo and nearby communities, leading to the arrest of 27 suspects.

Security personnel recovered several weapons during the raid, including knives, axes, and cutlasses. A large quantity of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp, along with other illegal substances, was also seized from the suspects.

Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the state. He warned individuals involved in unlawful acts to either change their ways or leave the state, as law enforcement agencies will continue to pursue those who threaten public peace.

The Commissioner also called on the public to support security agencies by reporting suspicious activity and cooperating with authorities to ensure the safety of all residents.

He added that Kaduna remains a generally peaceful state and the police will not allow the actions of a few to undermine that stability.

The arrested suspects are currently in custody and are expected to face charges after investigations are concluded.
