ChatGPT Experiences Widespread Outage, Users Across the Globe Left Stranded
Global ChatGPT outage leaves millions stranded as AI service crashes for hours.
Users worldwide report frozen screens and delayed responses, disrupting work and daily tasks.
A major disruption has struck OpenAI’s popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT, leaving users around the world frustrated and disconnected as the system remains unresponsive for hours. The outage, which began earlier on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, has affected both free and paid accounts, disrupting workflows and sparking concerns from individuals and professionals who rely heavily on the tool.

Since its launch in 2022, ChatGPT has become a go-to virtual assistant for millions globally, helping with research, content creation, task organization, lifestyle planning, and more. However, the current downtime has exposed the vulnerabilities of depending on AI-driven services without backup systems in place.
Reports indicate that the outage has persisted for over five hours, with affected users spanning regions including Nigeria, New Zealand, and Indonesia. While some versions of the chatbot show partial functionality, the majority of users report delays, blank screen blinking, or no response at all.
A user, Kevin from Ohio, provided updates on platform performance, confirming that responses vary depending on the version of ChatGPT accessed. According to him:
“O3 seems to be working, if a bit slow. 4o responded once, then went silent. 4o-mini is responding; it seems fine. 4o-mini-high is responding; it seems okay. 4.1 is responding, but pretty slow.”
The confusion has heightened, especially among professionals who depend on the bot for real-time tasks. Paul, a multimedia project coordinator based in Auckland, New Zealand, said the disruption has had a direct impact on his client billing and workflow coordination.
“ChatGPT is down. I’m getting the same blinking dot everyone’s reporting. It doesn’t process messages, and even when it does, it takes several failed attempts. This has now stalled hours of work,” he lamented.
In Nigeria, the situation is no different. Cyril, a data analyst in Lagos, shared screenshots of his inactive screen with media outlet Legit.ng, showing a frozen response loop that persisted without results.
“The black dot just keeps blinking. No output, no explanation. It’s been like this for a while and I can’t proceed with my reports,” he said.
Tech monitoring site TechRadar confirmed the ongoing issues, citing OpenAI’s vague service update, which merely stated, “We’re currently experiencing issues.” The platform has yet to provide a detailed explanation or an expected time for full restoration.
The timing of the glitch has further amplified user frustration, especially as OpenAI recently launched a new deep-research tool integrated within ChatGPT, intended to deliver richer, more analytical responses. Instead, users now face the irony of having a high-powered AI assistant that cannot respond to even the simplest prompt.
This unexpected service outage highlights the heavy reliance on AI in modern workflows and underscores the need for alternative tools or human backup in high-dependency environments. For many, it’s a stark reminder that even the most advanced technologies are not immune to failure.
As of the latest updates, no official timeline has been given for full recovery. Users are advised to monitor OpenAI’s official status page and communication channels for developments.
In the meantime, businesses and individuals may need to temporarily revert to manual processes or alternative digital tools to stay productive.
