Warri Wolves stole the spotlight at the Nigeria National League (NNL) April/May 2025 Awards, claiming two major honors ahead of the upcoming ceremony in Abuja. Edel FC’s rising star, Gukut Merpring Chindi, was also celebrated for his prolific form, emerging as the league’s highest goal scorer for April.
Warri Wolves are basking in double glory as they dominate the April/May 2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) Excellence Awards, scheduled for June 18 at the prestigious West Point Hotel, Wuse Zone 7, Abuja. The event, aimed at celebrating outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s second-tier football league, recognizes players, coaches, and teams who made significant impacts during the two-month period.
Among the key awardees are Warri Wolves’ head coach Napoleon Aluma and shot-stopper Efevwerha Joke, who claimed the Best Coach and Best Goalkeeper accolades, respectively. Their performances have been pivotal to the team’s competitive edge in recent weeks, solidifying the club’s presence among the top contenders in the NNL.
Organizers of the event, a collaboration between the NNL, Prostar Sports, and Sportlight Hub, described the awards as a tribute to the brilliance and hard work that make the league “the most important in Nigeria” in terms of player development and local engagement.
Meanwhile, Edel FC’s prolific striker Gukut Merpring Chindi has added a major personal accolade to his growing reputation by winning the Highest Goal Scorer award for April. Chindi netted three goals and registered one assist in four appearances during the month. His contributions extended into May, where he scored in one of the club’s two matches and added another goal just last weekend, taking his tally to five goals across seven games.
Edel FC’s team manager, Michael Chukwuebuka, lauded the forward’s consistency and attitude. “Chindi has shown a strong desire to grow. He’s been instrumental in our battle to avoid relegation, and I’m thrilled to see his efforts getting recognized,” he said.
“Beyond the goals, his all-around play and commitment have been key to our resurgence in the second half of the season. This award is a reflection of his hard work, and it’s truly well deserved.”
The ceremony will also honor other standout performers in various categories. Solution FC’s Valentine Ugwu has been named the Most Valuable Player (MVP), while Barau FC’s Shamasu Mohammed will receive the Goal of the Month award. Sokoto United FC has earned the Best Behaved Team title for exemplary conduct both on and off the pitch.
A host of football dignitaries, including officials from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), NNL, Prostar Sports, and club representatives, are expected to attend the awards night. The event not only celebrates achievements on the field but also aims to foster recognition and growth for domestic football in Nigeria.
With momentum building around the awards and the league gaining more attention, the ceremony is poised to be a significant moment in the ongoing efforts to elevate the standard and profile of the Nigeria National League.
