Popular Nollywood actress Olamide Odunlade has taken to social media to express heartfelt gratitude to God after narrowly escaping a horrifying petrol tanker explosion along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Wednesday. The actress, visibly shaken by the incident, shared her experience with fans in an emotional Instagram post that has since gone viral.
The terrifying event occurred near the Deeper Life Bible Church, just opposite the NASFAT camp a busy stretch of road frequently plied by commuters and long-haul drivers. According to eyewitnesses, the fuel-laden tanker was in motion when it suddenly lost control, toppled over, and exploded moments later. The resulting fire sent thick plumes of black smoke into the air, igniting widespread panic among drivers and nearby residents.
The explosion led to severe traffic disruption, throwing the entire expressway into a state of chaos. The resulting gridlock extended all the way back to the Berger axis in Lagos. Many frightened motorists began driving against traffic in a desperate attempt to flee the scene, creating even more confusion and danger on the already congested road.
Caught up in the middle of the chaos was actress Olamide Odunlade, who shared a video shortly after the explosion showing her escaping on foot from the danger zone. In the clip, the actress is visibly distressed and can be seen running away from the inferno, calling on God for mercy and protection.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Olamide later posted a video with tears in her eyes, saying:
“God, thank you. What would I have said? Everybody run!”
Her post immediately drew an outpouring of prayers and relief from fans, colleagues, and fellow celebrities who filled her comment section with messages of support and gratitude for her safety. Many also used the moment to call for better regulation of petroleum transport vehicles and improved safety measures on Nigerian roads to prevent such accidents in the future.
Olamide’s near-death experience has sparked conversations about road safety, emergency response, and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, especially for tankers transporting flammable materials.
