Afrobeat sensation Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, popularly known as Kizz Daniel, has opened up about the deeply personal losses that inspired his latest song, Al-Jannah. In a heartfelt podcast interview, the singer revealed that the track is a tribute to several loved ones he has lost over the years, including his father and son.

Speaking during the interview, Kizz Daniel described the close bond he once shared with his late father, whom he referred to as his best friend. He explained that losing him in 2015, just days after his 21st birthday, left a lasting emotional impact on him. This loss, coupled with other personal tragedies, eventually motivated him to write Al-Jannah, which translates to “paradise” in Arabic.
“When my dad was alive, he was my best friend,” the singer shared. “Al-Jannah was my way of honoring not just him, but everyone I’ve lost along the way.”
Kizz Daniel went on to list the painful experiences that have shaped his journey. In addition to his father’s passing, he revealed that he and his wife suffered the tragic loss of their son in 2021. More recently, his wife lost her mother in 2024. He also mentioned the passing of his stepmother and other family members who meant a lot to him.
“These are people who played major roles in our lives, and their absence leaves a void. I wanted to create something timeless for them,” he said. “That’s why the song isn’t just about one person, it’s for everyone who has lost someone dear. I think I was able to capture that feeling using the word ‘friend’ in the lyrics.”
With Al-Jannah, Kizz Daniel conveys a powerful and heartfelt message that speaks to the themes of grief, love, and cherished memories. The song serves as a powerful reminder that while our loved ones may be gone, their memories continue to live on in our hearts, and through the music they inspire.
