Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has condemned the recent spate of killings in the state, describing the violence as a deeply tragic and senseless act that has brought sorrow to many families and communities. Speaking in the aftermath of the attacks that have left scores dead and many displaced, the governor lamented the recurring bloodshed, calling it both “devastating and uncalled for.”
Governor Alia expressed profound grief over the incident, noting that such violence threatens the peace and stability of Benue and must not be allowed to continue. He emphasized that the government remains committed to restoring order and ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The governor also acknowledged the swift intervention of key national security figures, particularly the Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who visited the affected communities to assess the situation firsthand. According to Alia, their presence provided much-needed reassurance and comfort to the grieving families and signaled a renewed commitment by the federal government to tackle the growing insecurity in the state.
He further disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has been fully briefed on the killings and is deeply troubled by the tragic events. Alia noted that the president conveyed his condolences to the people of Benue and reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to support all efforts aimed at ending the cycle of violence.
In response to the attacks, Governor Alia stated that security deployment to the affected areas has been intensified. He urged residents to stay vigilant but hopeful, assuring them that coordinated security strategies are being implemented to prevent further bloodshed.
Alia concluded by appealing for unity and cooperation among community leaders, security agencies, and residents to work together in restoring lasting peace.
