NYSC Relocates Corps Members from Troubled Areas in Benue to Ensure Safety

NYSC has relocated corps members from Yelwata and Daudu to Makurdi over rising violence in Benue.

Officials say all members are safe as security agencies work to restore peace in the region.

In response to the growing tension and security concerns in parts of Benue State, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has moved its members stationed in Yelwata and Daudu to safer areas within the state capital, Makurdi. The relocation follows a recent spike in violence that has led to several bloody incidents in those communities.

The State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Veronica Garba, confirmed the relocation, explaining that the action was carried out in partnership with the Nigeria Police Force. According to her, the affected corps members were taken to secure facilities, including official NYSC lodges and private homes approved by the scheme in Makurdi.

Mrs. Garba assured that all the relocated corps members are safe, properly documented, and are being looked after. She called on the public, especially parents and guardians, to remain calm and continue to support the scheme with prayers and encouragement.

“We understand that this situation has caused worry, but I want to assure everyone that the corps members are in good condition and we are taking every step to guarantee their safety,” she said.

She also welcomed the efforts of the newly appointed security heads in the state, saying their swift cooperation made the evacuation smoother and showed promise for long-term peace in the area.

This development comes shortly after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited the state, where he directed security agencies to take firm action in restoring order and bringing those responsible for recent attacks to justice.

The NYSC emphasized that it will continue to monitor the situation in Benue and prioritize the protection of all its personnel throughout the state.
