Court Postpones Hearing in Mercy Chinwo Ex-Manager’s Money Laundering Case to September 2025

Trial of gospel music promoter Eezee Tee has been pushed to late September as talks continue.

EFCC accuses him of laundering funds and handling forex deals without proper authorization.

The Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, presided over by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, has adjourned the trial of Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu ThankGod, aka Eezee Tee, until September 26, 2025.

ThankGod and his company, Eezee Global Concepts Limited, are being prosecuted on a seven-count amended charge by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Lagos Zonal Directorate. The allegations center around money laundering and foreign exchange violations involving hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The matter was initially heard by Justice Owoeye before being reassigned to Justice Aneke for continuation.

One of the counts accuses ThankGod of negotiating a foreign currency transaction without being a licensed dealer approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria, an action said to be in breach of the Foreign Exchange Monitoring and Miscellaneous (Provisions) Act.

During Friday’s session, the EFCC, represented by lead counsel Bilkisu Buhari-Bala, called its first witness, Mohammed Timta.

Defence counsel Chikaosolu Ojukwu, SAN, informed the court that both parties were close to settling the matter and requested more time to finalize negotiations. He added that if the discussions fall through, the case would proceed to full trial.

Justice Aneke approved the request and postponed the case until September 26, 2025, for continued proceedings.
