INEC Begins Registration Process for ADA, 109 Other Emerging Political Parties
INEC has started reviewing registration requests from 110 political parties, including the ADA.
This could lead to more political parties joining Nigeria’s democratic process ahead of future elections.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially commenced the review and processing of registration requests from 110 political associations, including the All Democratic Alliance (ADA). This development comes just a day after the commission stated that ADA had not yet met the legal prerequisites for registration.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday, noting that ADA and other associations had submitted letters of intent to become recognized political parties in Nigeria. The surge in interest highlights the evolving dynamics within Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
“As at Monday, 23rd June 2025, the Commission has received letters of intent from 110 associations that wish to register as political parties,” Prof. Yakubu said. “We are diligently processing the requests in line with the procedure outlined in the law as well as our Regulations and Guidelines.”
According to the commission, all but six of the applications have been acknowledged, and those pending responses will be addressed before the end of the week. The commission also reiterated its commitment to transparency and due process in handling all party registration matters.
INEC encouraged all prospective party organizers to consult the “Regulations and Guidelines” for Political Parties 2022, which are available on the commission’s website. The handbook provides comprehensive details on requirements such as proper documentation, nationwide representation, and compliance with the Electoral Act.
The ADA, which is reportedly backed by a coalition of opposition figures, is positioning itself as an alternative platform in Nigeria’s crowded political space. However, INEC has insisted that all parties, regardless of political affiliation, must comply fully with legal requirements before being granted registration.
This development marks a significant moment in the political cycle, potentially paving the way for new voices and platforms to participate in the democratic process. As the registration screening continues, political analysts are watching closely to see which of the 110 applicants will meet the rigorous standards set by the commission.
ADA has already failed from Inception. ADA was established by greedy politicians who wanted power for their own selfish reasons.
