PDP Reinstates Senator Anyanwu, Cancels June 30 NEC Meeting

The PDP has brought back Senator Samuel Anyanwu into its leadership team and cancelled its June 30 NEC meeting.

The party says the move will help strengthen unity and prepare for future elections.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has changed its earlier position on Senator Samuel Anyanwu and has also decided to cancel its planned National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting that was scheduled to hold on June 30, 2025. This decision came after the party held a meeting with officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The party’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, made this announcement on Wednesday during a press briefing at the PDP’s national secretariat in Abuja. He explained that although the decision to bring back Senator Anyanwu was a tough one, it had been accepted by many important members and leaders of the party.

Standing beside Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and other key party members, Damagum shared that the party had agreed to return Senator Anyanwu to his position in the National Working Committee (NWC).

“Senator Samuel Anyanwu has been reinstated into the National Working Committee,” Damagum said. “It was not an easy decision, but it was agreed upon by most of the party’s leadership and decision-making bodies.”

This move marks a major shift in the party’s recent internal issues. Earlier, there had been tension within the PDP due to disagreements about leadership roles and decisions related to Anyanwu. The NEC meeting that was originally planned for June 30 was expected to address some of these issues, but the party now believes that suspending the meeting is the better option for now.

Sources inside the party say the meeting with INEC may have helped the PDP leadership realize the need to settle their differences and present a united front, especially as the country prepares for future elections. It is also believed that bringing Senator Anyanwu back into the NWC could help calm tensions within the party and promote unity.

Some party members who had earlier opposed Anyanwu’s role in the leadership structure are now showing support for the decision, possibly in the interest of party peace and progress. The PDP appears to be focusing more on healing its internal divisions and getting stronger ahead of important political contests.

With this new development, the party hopes to move forward in unity and strengthen its structure in preparation for future challenges.
