VP Shettima Visits Ethiopia to Strengthen Bilateral Ties and Attend Green Legacy Launch
Vice President Shettima visits Ethiopia to boost ties on climate action, farming, and industry.
He will join the launch of a major tree-planting drive and tour key agricultural sites.
Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on an official visit at the invitation of Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali.
During his stay, Shettima will attend the formal launch of Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Program, a major environmental initiative aimed at addressing deforestation, boosting biodiversity, and tackling climate change. The project sets an ambitious target of planting 20 billion tree seedlings over four years.
Beyond the environmental event, the Vice President is expected to tour several industrial and agricultural facilities across Ethiopia. These include visits to the Adama Industrial Zone, Mojo Poultry Farm, Shera Dibandiba Mojo Family Integrated Farm, Lume Avocado Nursery Site, and the Bishoftu Pea Youth Farm. The tour is part of broader efforts to strengthen cooperation between Nigeria and Ethiopia in the areas of agriculture and industrial development.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed will also host Shettima and his delegation to a State Dinner at the National Palace, marking a continuation of the warm diplomatic relations between both nations.
Nigeria and Ethiopia have a long-standing partnership rooted in shared interests such as regional peacekeeping, military cooperation, and economic development. The Vice President’s visit is expected to deepen these ties, while fostering new collaboration in climate action, food security, and sustainable industrialization.
