Twin-X Celebrates 24 Years of “Mother Mi” with New Website, Teases Comeback

Pioneering Afrobeats duo Twin-X is making headlines once again as they celebrate the 24th anniversary of their classic hit Mother Mi with the launch of their official website. The identical twin brothers, Taiwo and Keni Akintoye, who rose to fame in the early 2000s, are reintroducing themselves to a new generation of fans while reconnecting with longtime followers.

Released on May 27, 2001, Mother Mi quickly became a cultural anthem, particularly among Nigerian youth and university campuses. Its heartfelt lyrics, notably the line “Olu Orun ma pa mother mi lekun,” struck an emotional chord and helped solidify Twin-X’s place in the early Afrobeats movement.

In a heartfelt message on the newly launched website, twin-x.org, the duo reflected on the song’s impact: “That song changed everything. The response was unreal. The video became a hit right away, featuring stars such as Uche Jombo, Steph Nora Okere, Jennifer Eliogu, Kenny Ogungbe, ID Ogungbe, Kwame, and Tony Tetuila, all joining forces to honor mothers. It wasn’t just a song; it was a tribute.”

The website serves as a digital archive of their musical journey, offering fans access to rare photos, behind-the-scenes footage, untold stories, and factual clarifications about their career and extended hiatus. It comes just months after the release of their full discography on major streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music.

According to reports, Twin-X emphasized that this digital comeback is about more than music. “Our decision to step out now is about everything we’ve represented over the years, our growth as professionals and entrepreneurs in media, tech, and academia,” they wrote.

While they hinted at the possibility of releasing new music, the focus appears to be on preserving their legacy and expanding their influence beyond entertainment. Reports also has it that the duo also announced plans for a new YouTube channel and more active engagement on their social media platforms.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of early 2000s Afrobeats or just discovering the genre, Twin-X’s comeback offers a mix of old-school vibes and fresh energy, a perfect blend of the past and the future of African music.
