Shehu Sani Urges Northern Support for President Tinubu Ahead of 2027

Former Senator Shehu Sani has urged Northerners to rally behind President Tinubu, praising his administration’s progress ahead of the 2027 election.

He warned against divisive tactics by past leaders, accusing them of selfish motives and failure to uplift the North during their tenure.

Former senator and human rights advocate, Shehu Sani, has called on Northern Nigerians to back President Bola Tinubu’s administration as the country moves closer to the 2027 general elections.

Speaking to journalists in Kaduna on Monday, Sani expressed satisfaction with the performance of Tinubu’s government so far. He noted that many in the North acknowledge the strides made under the current administration, especially when compared to previous governments led by Northern politicians.

“In the North, we recognize the progress achieved under President Tinubu. Those who had the chance to lead and bring positive change but failed should offer apologies for their shortcomings,” Sani stated.

He further cautioned Northerners against being misled or manipulated by individuals seeking to create division for personal gain. According to Sani, it is important to recognize Tinubu’s past support for Northern leaders, including during the last administration which held power for eight years.

The former senator emphasized the need for unity and reflection on Nigeria’s turbulent political past. He urged citizens to draw lessons from past governance failures to avoid repeating history.

“Some of the loudest critics today are those who were in positions of power and failed to improve the lives of the people in the North. Rather than uplift the region, they left it in worse condition. Now, they complain, not because of genuine concern, but because they have been excluded from government affairs,” Sani explained.

He warned that such individuals often disguise personal grievances as national or regional issues. According to him, these criticisms are not based on insecurity, poor governance, or economic hardship, but on lost privileges.

While acknowledging the right of every citizen to express opinions, Sani urged that such expressions must be constructive and not designed to cause unrest or instability.

“Everyone is entitled to speak out, but we must avoid narratives that threaten to set the country on fire. The focus should be on national progress, not selfish interests,” he concluded.
