A Nigerian television host has publicly criticized renowned preacher Pastor Paul Adefarasin over a recent incident involving a young content creator, which has stirred mixed reactions across social media platforms.
The controversy erupted after a viral video surfaced showing Pastor Adefarasin, Senior Pastor of House on the Rock Church, reacting in a manner many viewers considered aggressive toward a Lagos-based content creator. In the video, the content creator is seen filming on the roadside when Adefarasin’s black Range Rover approaches and slows down. As the car window lowered, the young man politely greeted the pastor. However, Adefarasin responds in a sharp, commanding tone while holding what appeared at first glance to be a firearm.
The unexpected reaction and the object in the pastor’s hand left many viewers unsettled, though it was later believed to be a taser rather than a gun. The visibly startled content creator quickly apologized before the vehicle drove off.
Reacting to the incident, the television presenter criticized the pastor’s conduct, suggesting that he exhibited signs of poor anger control. She argued that there was no justification for his behavior, especially since the content creator posed no threat and was simply filming content in public.
“It’s alarming to see a spiritual leader react so aggressively in a non-threatening situation,” she stated. “Holding up a taser and responding with hostility sends the wrong message especially to young people looking up to religious figures.”
The presenter also referenced a past incident in which Adefarasin allegedly stepped out of his vehicle to confront someone, suggesting a possible pattern of similar confrontational behavior.
Her comments have sparked a broader online debate, with many social media users weighing in on the responsibilities of public figures, particularly religious leaders, when interacting with the public. While some defended Adefarasin’s actions as a reaction to constant intrusion, others agreed that a calm and measured approach would have been more appropriate, given his position and influence.
